Life Is Experience corp has been set up to demonstrate that even new players can do a bit of everything - they of course lack the skills to do it greatly but they can with team work, do many of the basic things in New Eden. When the player decides what they like to do for the most part then off they can go, or stick around and keep training multiple disciplines. It will of course take longer, but I'm at the stage where I can fly the ships I want to fly, do inventions - create cyno's use pos guns and other things that I can barely remember I can actually do.
So yes it is possible and if it means more characters end up being able to bring more than one facet to an alliance in the future that should be for the good. Wouldn't any CEO of a corp like to have a character that was proficient in multiple aspects of the game instead of resolutely combat/pvp'r? Goodness the number of times I've seen it lead to a break up of corporations and alliances I could count on my hand actually, but I've not been in many - I'm sure it happens more often than not and all because people won't try some new things for whatever reason.
I think the 10 myths of Eve are mostly true - there's no real black or white truths in reality as it all comes down to individual perception and ability to manage, time, logistics and other people. The points are not bad as they've been written though. The market is daunting to the first time player with a bit of isk who then reads the description but not the required skills, but that could lead them to find a buyer elsewhere and make some profit - or at least not much of a loss.
Playing Eve is a good way of finding out about personal abilities and the psychological aspect of ones character, however a "successful" CEO (in their own definition) doesn't necessarily make a great boss/owner/manager of a real life company. There will of course be the presence of some leadership ability though or some charisma and charm that talks people (who pay to be in the game) in to doing some thing that they might find boring or tedious, but understands the importance of the objective.
